Have you considered mobile customers?

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Many organizations have a web-site; however, few have considered what to do with mobile customers. With today’s fast paced environment, people are trying to perform more functions on-the-move than ever before. Does your web-site favor mobile users?

Here is a quick test: Go to your URL through a cellphone or blackberry and take a look at what your customers are seeing. Chances are your site needs revisions to make it more mobile freindly. On the bright side, the changes are quick and do not take a lot of time.

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Obtain a special URL or create another directory for mobile users. Do not make them go through your current web-site to get to the mobile site.
  2. Place your phone number and address at the top of the wireless web page site.
  3. Have a “landing zone” for when they go to the URL, so they are not greeted with a lot of clutter.
  4. Remove “table” tags, so all the user needs to do is scroll down the page.

These are just a few suggestions as to how you can make your e-commerce site more mobile-user-friendly.
